Weekly Gratitude List

I’ve got two weeks worth of awesomeness for you guys, seeing as I completely forgot about posting last week’s gratitude list*

heart.jpg-1Week 1:  Drinks that live up to their names (I tried an ‘amazing‘ iced coffee, I was not disappointed), peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, the banana splits at Joe’s Garage, spending time with family, fresh smoked pipi for breakfast, my boyfriend (he bought me ear plugs so I would be able to sleep through the ‘sevens weekend‘; and early morning swims at the beach.

heart.jpg-1Week 2: My birthday dinner at Picke (I had a real low-key one this year, and had dinner with my boyfriend, my dad and his partner), incredibly thoughtful-yet-ridiculous birthday presents, Alan Davies’ show: Life is pain (it was fucking hilarious), pancake day, catching up with friends I haven’t seen in ages, lunch with my bestie, finding a chip shop that does gluten-free fish & chips, dinner on the waterfront; and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

*Time flies when you’re having fun, I’m sure there a lot of things I’ve missed out/forgotten.

I wasn’t able to post this on Wednesday as I was at my dad’s place* (I had an AWESOME time and definitely need to visit him more; especially during the summer). I have a lot to be grateful for this week, and I feel truly blessed. So, let’s get started.

heart.jpg-1Easy to cook (yet incredibly delicious) meals: I made (basically) a 3-ingrdient chicken on Friday and it was fucking amazing.
heart.jpg-1Caching up with my dad: Dad came into town on Saturday, so we had coffee and went for a little walk.
heart.jpg-1New coffee discoveries: I have no idea what a bongo is, all I know is that I like it, a lot.
heart.jpg-1Evening walks with my boyfriend around the city: I really need to get fit/lose weight.
heart.jpg-1Great weather: We’ve had awesome weather all week so far, and the weekend is supposed to be great as well.
heart.jpg-1The beach: My dad lives on Otaki beach, so I spent as much time there as I could while I was at his place (this included going down there at 7am to collect pipi).
heart.jpg-1Family photo time: Basucally, whenever my dad, sister and I get together we have to take photos of the three of us together.

*I took my laptop with me but dad had forgotten his wifi password

Here are some of the things that have made me smile this week, especially when I’ve felt like everything was just a bit too much (I suggest you grab a bucket because at least one of these things will be vomit inducing).

•My Boyfriend: Yeah, I know total gag fest, right? He is awesome though, and I’m very lucky to have him. Who else would put up with me/be able to keep me sane when I’m having days where I just want to hulk smash stuff/people? I’ve had a few of those days this week; to be honest, I’m not sure how he does it.
•Good Weather: We’ve had a few shitty days this week, but for the most part we’re still having a decent summer. On Friday we walked down to the waterfront to get some coffee and watch some WW2 fighter planes flying over the city (I was so excited I burst into tears; I’m not even really into planes WTF).
•Bad Movies: On Thursday, I was beyond tired so we went to bed early and watched Lesbian Vampire Killers; it’s probably one of my favourite terrible movies
•Little Things: Swings (yes, my inner child is 5), cooking (yesterday I made chutney, and I’ve got some beef curry in the oven at the moment), good mail days (I got sorted food’s latest book in the mail last week, and on Saturday an egg cosie I won arrived; he is the CUTEST), family time, my mum, late night walks along the waterfront, candied bacon (OMGF SO GOOD), cups of tea, coffee; and the box of my grandmother’s stuff my dad gave me.

Weekly Gratitude List

Gratitude

I haven’t written or posted a gratitude list in a LONG time (just had a look through my tags the last list I posted was almost a year ago) , and I reckon the new year is a good place to start getting in the habit again. I’m also in a pretty bad mood*, and figure that writing a gratitude list will stop me concentrating on the negative and get me focusing on the positive.

•Summertime: Summer has always been my favourite season; the last couple of years, though, it’s been pretty shit (overcast, humid summers with hardly any sun are gross). I don’t wanna jinx it, but so far this summer has been awesome; we’ve definitely had some rainy, overcast, incredibly windy days, but I think the good days have outweighed the bad. It’s been great, summer makes my heart happy.
•Fun in the sun: I’ve definitely been making the most of the good weather we’ve been having. So far, I’ve taken a walk to the botanical gardens (we walked around for four hours, I thought I was going to die), been to the beach (my first ocean swim in years, I had forgotten how awesome swimming in the sea was) and have spent evenings walking around the waterfront with my boyfriend. The downside? Sunburn.
•Quality time with friends and family: I’ve been going to mum’s a lot recently; going through her stuff, and having lunch with her before she moves to Australia. I’ve also been spending time with my sister, nephew, dad and bff.
•New discoveries: While my boyfriend and I were at the botanical gardens I went to the cable car museum and the begonia house for the first time (the begonias were SO PRETTY, there was also pond full of fishes and lotus flowers).
•The Little Things: Lemon, lime and bitters (it’s been this year’s default summer drink), good coffee (had the BEST coffee in a very long time recently at a place called Scorch-O-Rama), Mac’ alcoholic ginger beer (SO GOOD), quiz starting again; and terrible, terrible music.

*Pretty bad is an understatement – ALL OF THE RAGE is probably more apt.

Hooray For Humpday

Happy Wednesday Everybody! We’ve made it to the middle of the (working) week; it’s also the part of the week where I share the things that have made me smile and that I’m grateful for with you guys:

  • Getting the same birthday present from my dad and one of my sisters – I got home from work on Thursday to find that my sister had brought my present over, I opened it and cracked up laughing, as it was the same journal my dad had bought me. I LOVE IT! On a serious note, how much do I complain about people?!
  • A combined birthday dinner with friends – It was a great night with great food and company (I also got some awesome presents).
  • Sunday afternoon coffee with Phillip and Rochelle – We had coffee at Deluxe, along with THE BEST gluten-free caramel slice EVER.
  • Getting ‘mad props‘ in the monthly newsletter work sends out - I was so excited when I saw that, actually, excited is probably a bit mild for what I was.
  • The little things: Getting AMAZING (and incredibly helpful) feedback after an interview, email conversations with friends, Skyrim (I think I’m addicted), having a boyfriend who buys me ‘bad‘ food when I’m sad; the feeling I get when I’ve made someone’s day

Hooray For Humpday: Birthday Week Edition

I was going to post this yesterday, but after spending the day with my sister in Otaki I was knackered and ended up playing Skyrim instead (slack, I know, but I was half asleep).
Anyway, enough excuse making; here are the things that have made my week thus far:

  • Spending time with Whiona – she came down to see me (and gave me my early birthday presents) on Friday; it was great to catch up with her because I hadn’t seen her in ages, and I caught the train to Waikanae and hung out with her at her house in Otaki yesterday.
  • Visual puns, and the fact my mother ‘gets me – I absolutely adore the teaspoon she got me for my birthday.
  • Working with amazing people – we had training on Tuesday night, and they had made a gluten-free birthday cake for me, and had bought me a bracelet with a K on it.
  • GelatoPhillip and I took a walk along the waterfront on Monday because I was getting irritated at dickheads blasting insanely shitty music at an insanely loud volume, and stopped to get gelato on the way; it melted all over my top, but it was delicious.
  • Birthday lunch with mum – We had pumpkin salad and fries; the fries were okay, the pumpkin salad was amazing.
  • Sunshine – the weather in Wellington has been okay-ish; it was fucking beautiful in Otaki.
  • Talks that go well – my sister and I had a talk to our dad while we were in Otaki, it went well.
  • Things to look forward to – I’m having a joint birthday dinner with a couple of friends on Friday night, and I can’t wait; I’m really hanging out for some tostada.

It was a beautiful day in Otaki

Hooray For Humpday

Here are the things that have made my week thus far: fluffies before bed (paper straw optional), working with awesome people, Lush’s 2012 Valentine’s Day products (I am totally in love with the Love Potion massage bar, it smells divine), sushi with great friends, finding gummy lollies I can eat, new job opportunities (I had an interview yesterday, and have one tomorrow), my sister Whiona, hilariously unexpected news (I am legally allowed to drive without glasses or contacts?!); and Kirsten Bell being adorable.

Oh, and if you were wondering, I used the PolyMagic app for the iPhone in this post

Hooray For Humpday

This week: Coffee & fruit salad with Arawhetu, feel good presents to myself (I’ve been feeling pretty shit all week, so I decided to get myself a little something to lift my mood a little, I got: a Hello Kitty pez dispenser & wocka wocka nail polish from The Muppets range by OPI), when my nails match my clothing, milkshakes!! (and brunch with great company), strawberry & cream cheese cupcakes with pink cream cheese icing, walking along the waterfront on my way to the optometrist, contacts that fit; and not seeing double. Life is beautiful.

Hooray For Humpday

This week, i’s all about the little things: surprise gifts (I absolutely adore the notebook my mum got for me), the accidental Mickey Mouse in my morning coffee (it was, apparently, supposed to be a heart), catching up with great friends for coffee, walking along the waterfront on a sunny day, new job opportunities (*fingerscrossed*), free sushi (it’s the BEST sushi), Sherlock (best show ever), cherry coke, working with such an awesome group of people, hilariously awesome tweets like this & this,  getting a ride home from work; and pancakes for dinner

Hooray For Humpday

Wow, I can’t believe the last HFH post I did was last September (yes, I know, I’m pretty bad at this regular blogging thing). Seeing as one of my goals this year is to write more I am determined to post these things one time (and without week-long/month-long gaps). Anyway, enough babbling and on with the awesomeness

  • Homemade gingerbread men – they’re delicious and fun to decorate.
  • Catching up with Miss Jess (who just got back from Guadeloupe) – we went to Heaven Pizza where we talked shit and I ate (bar one slice) an entire large Kiwi Pizza (bacon, egg and mozzarella goodness).
  • Stores with inspiring window displays – While walking past Kikki.K on Saturday I noticed the journals (I am obsessed with journals) in their window display, then I noticed the window and it made my evening.
  • Coffee and tea with Rochelle – I got to catch up and hang out with Rochelle on Sunday (which despite the shit weather was awesome).
  • Hanging out with Miss Carol – I caught the train out to Wingate yesterday, and got to hang out with Carol, it was cool because I hadn’t caught up with her one-on-one for a while.
  • Belated Christmas presents – my Pinkie Pie plushie arrived today, and she’s adorable (yes, I like My Little Ponies).
  • Getting lovely cards in the mail – got a card from my mum this afternoon. Best. Card. Ever.
  • The Little Things – Sunshine (the weather has been a bit shit recently), gelato, pretty dresses, coffee in the morning, the smell of Lush throughout the house, new job prospects (*fingers crossed*), time off work (sun, sun, glorious sun); and the feeling of being appreciated.
