In October, Charli Marie posted about her high-end makeup collection, and ever since I have been meaning to share my small (I’m a makeup newbie) collection as well. I bought a few items while we were in Canada last year as certain makeup brands/products can be hard to find in New Zealand; so, where possible I have provided links to online stockists/stockists in New Zealand.
MAC: I have two MAC lipsticks (impassioned and fully fuchsia); they were my first high-end purchases and the only MAC products i own. I bought them because they were so bright and I wanted something that would put a bit of colour into my outfits (I wear a lot of black; it’s pretty much the Wellington uniform). When I first bought them, I wore them ALL THE TIME, and while I don’t wear them as often anymore, they’re still my go-to when I feel that I need an injection of colour. A list of Mac stores/counters in New Zealand can be found here.
Tarte: While we were in Canada, I went a bit Sephora crazy (we don’t have Sephora in New Zealand; so I was like a kid in a candy store. So many brands/products I had seen beauty gurus rave about was a Tarte Cheek Stain (in natural beauty). As excited as I was about buying it, I have to admit I wasn’t overly impressed, I much prefer Benetint by Benefit.
Urban Decay: Another Sephora purchase was the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion; it’s just as amazing as everyone says it is. I am so glad I bought it.
Too Faced: After a few days of asking myself “should I get this?”, “Will I use it?”, “do I need it?”, “are these colours okay?”, I ended up buying the Too Faced ‘Chocolate Bar’ eyeshadow palette. from Sephora. I’m still getting my head around eye makeup, so II haven’t used it that much. but I am hoping to use it a bit more in the New Year..
YSL: I bought myself the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in Rose Asarine (34) as a pick-me-up last year. it’s a bright opaque pink, very similar to MAC’s Impassioned. Like my MAC lipsticks, I wore this all the time when I first bought it, but don’t wear it nearly as much now; I do wear it when I’m feeling a bit down though, it’s one of those lipsticks that makes me feel a bit better when I’m feeling a little crappy . You can buy YSL cosmetics in store and online at Smith & Caughey’s in Auckland, Kirkcaldie and Stains, in Wellington and at selected Farmers stores (Farmers don’t have an online store, but you can find out which Farmers stores sell YSL, and what they have in stock here).
Anna Sui: While we were in Auckland last, I bought an Anna Sui rose cheek colour in pink rose. I bought it at KS cosmetics in Auckland (KS Cosmetics is a small store in the Atrium on Elliott that sells imported makeup from Korea (Etude House!!!), Taiwan and The States. If you’re not in Auckland, you can also buy Anna Sui products through BeautyBay.
Benefit: While in Auckland, I also made sure to make a stop off at the Benefit counter at Smith & Caughey’s where I bought a few products (I blogged about them here). I still haven’t used the They’re Real Pushup Liner, but I use the Benetint and Benebalm regularly. You can buy Benefit products through the Benefit website, or in store/online at Smith & Caughey’s.
Comment and let me know what your favourite high-end makeup product is, and if there’s anything you think I should try. Also, was there anything you bought that you thought was going to be amazing, but ended up being a bit of a dud. xx
