We spent Good Friday at the in-laws, and on our way home on Saturday afternoon stopped at a couple of road-side fruit stores. At one of the fruit stores, they were selling feijoas by the kilo for about $3, feijoas are on of my favourite fruits, so as soon as I saw them, I had to buy a bag.
When I got home, I put them into a fruit bowls and then realised that I had a KILO feijoas, and I didn’t know what to do with them – Phillip doesn’t like them, and I wasn’t sure if I could eat a kilo before they went off (I could try I guess).
Luckily we also bought a couple of bags of apples at one of the stores, so I decided to make an apple and feijoa crumble. Continue reading →
A couple of weeks ago we bought a juicer (finally, you have no idea now how long I had wanted one). Since getting our juicer, I have been juicing anything and everything I can get my hands on (I feel like an episode of can you ice cream it, but with juice, obviously), because that’s what you do when you get a new toy, right? I’m posting a recipe this week instead of making a Music Monday post, because as I’ve said previously, I haven’t been listening to much music lately (which is weird for me, because I’m that girl who used to spend all her time in her room listening to the radio).
The recipe I’m sharing is one for a ‘chocolate chip cookie dough’ smoothie that I found via NZ Girl. This smoothie is gluten free and can be made vegan, dairy free (honey as a sweetener) or with dairy (I’m lactose intolerant so made mine vegan, as I’m trying to cut down on the amount of dairy I consume). Here’s the recipe for the icing we used on our cinnamon buns (or frosting, or whatever else you call it).
If you’re going to make the icing for the cinnamon buns, I’d suggested halving the batch. We made a full batch the first time around, and we ended up with way too much left over. I’d also suggested not substituting the powdered sugar with anything, we didn’t have enough the first time round so used caster sugar instead – it wasn’t nice. Continue reading →
I feel like a broken record saying this, but while we were in Toronto we checked out a bakery called Bunner’s. All the food they make is gluten free, vegan, and oh-so delicious (I feel that i need another adjective to describe food, one that I would use though, so for now, if food is seriously good, it’s delicious).
